I.DESCRIPCIÓN DEL CURSO
This course will focus on the creation of a fully documented research paper in literary studies designed to broaden students? perspectives and provide an opportunity for the integration of theoretical concepts. Students will discuss a variety of literary texts and consider several theoretical and critical approaches in order to formulate a critical problem or question for the creation of their paper. The course emphasizes the application of literary analysis and strategies of argumentation and close reading, using works of literature and literary criticism as subject matter.
II.RESULTADOS DE APRENDIZAJE
1.To apply close reading of literary texts and analyze them with a critical approach, following the methodology discussed in class.
2.To formulate a critical problem to a literary text chosen by the student.
3.To develop a thesis statement and write a research paper that demonstrates critical insight, academic style, and effective writing skills.
4.To defend the research paper in a public oral exam. This may include the other course sections in a one-day symposium.
III.CONTENIDOS
1.Selected literary texts.
2.Critical texts that help provide a context (historical, cultural) for the study of literary texts.
3.Theoretical texts that complement the analysis of the students? chosen literary text.
4.Relevant research methodologies to help the students develop an original research idea and write a paper on the matter.
