I. DESCRIPTION
In this course students will be introduced to a variety of literary genres (short story, novel, poetry, and drama),
analytical concepts and theoretical approaches. They will gain experience in analyzing an assortment of texts
and will be evaluated on their ability to do so in groups and individually. The following questions will guide
the course: What is literature? How do we study it? What are the differences and similarities between genres?
II. OBJECTIVES
1. To learn and test existing definitions of literature and literary genres.
2. To learn how to use analytical concepts to articulate critical and logical arguments about the meaning
of literary texts.
III. CONTENTS
1. General introduction to literature.
2. Narrative (Essay and Novel).
3. Poetry.
4. Drama.
IV. METHODOLOGY
