I.DESCRIPCIÓN DEL CURSO
This course is focused on the study of the specificity of the dramatic genre and the different forms American and British theatre explore during the twentieth century and the beginning of the new century. A selection of plays by Williams, Albee, Beckett, Mamet, Churchill, LaBute and others, will be studied.
II.RESULTADOS DE APRENDIZAJE
1.To analyze the characteristics of the dramatic genre and the different forms of American and British drama.
2.To differentiate between a number of different dramatic categories.
3.To provide a coherent and comprehensive theoretical framework for the analysis of the dramatic genre, noy only as a literary form but also as a system of signs on the stage.
4.To build reports and essays.
III.CONTENIDOS
1.The dramatic text: relationship between text and performance.
2.Dramatis personae/figure, dramatic dialogue: functions of language and verbal communication.
3.Drama and the dramatic. Dramatic shape. Stage directions. Structures of time and space.
4.Theatricality Intertextuality.
5.Realism, Theatre of the Absurd, Postmodern and Post-Dramatic Theatre, Feminist Theatre.
6.Theater Semiotics, historical and cultural contexts, communication systems, family construction,
representation of the city and representation of the body.
IV.ESTRATEGIAS METODOLOGICAS
-Lectures.
-Group discussion.
-Exploration of dramatic texts and practices through dramatic performance and experiment in class.
V.ESTRATEGIAS EVALUATIVAS
-Written/oral work (3 reports, 1 theatre review, 1 dramatic reading): 25%
-Class presentation: 10%
-Tests: 65%, made up of:
-Mid-term take home test: 30%
-In class final test: 20%
-Oral test: 15%
