I.DESCRIPCIÓN DEL CURSO

This course is designed to develop students? research and writing skills to enable them to write successful academic texts, such as research papers and articles. In the first part of the course students will learn the mechanics of writing, proper use of academic vocabulary, and methods to appropriately cite the works of others. Students will explore a variety of academic resources, considering relevant criteria such as impact factor, indexation, and year of publication. In the second section, students will examine the structure of an academic text. Finally, they will apply their research and writing skills to create their own research proposal in either linguistics or literature.


II.RESULTADOS DE APRENDIZAJE

1.Explain the mechanics of writing, proper use of academic vocabulary, and methods to appropriately cite the works of others based on the use of a variety of academic resources, considering relevant criteria such as impact factor, indexation, and year of publication.

2.Explore the structure of an academic text identifying the characteristics and functions of the different sections of a research paper from a critical perspective.

3.Produce a research proposal in either linguistics or literature applying their research and writing skills and using either APA or MLA citation.

3.1.Formulating the Research Problem/Thesis Statement

4.Peer Review and Research Proposal:
4.1.Peer review in academia
4.2.Creating a research proposal
