I.DESCRIPCIÓN DEL CURSO

This course presents an overview of common topics usually addressed in the study of linguistics. Issues regarding the definition of language, historical linguistics, language acquisition, among other themes. Controversies and debates regarding the topics to be discussed will be identified and discussed in class sessions. The evaluation of learning focuses on the development of written and oral exposition and discussion pertinent to the discipline.


II.RESULTADOS DE APRENDIZAJE

1.To analyse relevant information regarding the discussion of questions commonly tackled by linguistic studies.

2.To select significant evidence underpinning different perspectives towards linguistic phenomena.

3.To classify facts defining different perspectives towards linguistic phenomena.

4.To describe a linguistic phenomenon in regards to questions it raises, unique features and different perspectives towards its manifestation.

3.2.Studies on second language acquisition/learning social, cognitive and biological perspectives.
3.3.Code switching and translanguaging in the construction of the self

4.Language and social class
4.1.Attitudes, social class and language
4.2.Language variation and diglossia
4.3.Power and symbolic access


IV.ESTRATEGIAS METODOLOGICAS

-Factual oral discussion of readings discussing common linguistic topics.

-Cooperative construction of knowledge to characterize different perspectives towards a topic.

-Written discussions that understanding of the relevant aspects of topics commonly addressed by linguistic studies.


V.ESTRATEGIAS EVALUATIVAS

-Factual discussions of reading assignments: 30%

-Oral presentation of a topic related to linguistics: 30%

-Final Written Exam: 40%
