I. DESCRIPTION

The workshop will allow to improve their oral and written Englishthrough the analysis and production of multimedia information. During the course the attendess will be able to their language skills in order to develop a critical view of the reality of jornalism in different countrier. Advanced command of the English language is amust for the future journalist and for anyone applying for a job in a multinational cvompany.


II. OBJETIVES

Generales:

1. Analyse news published in English but in different continants, even in non English speaking countries which hace publicationas in this languege.

2. Compare the same information as it is presented in a different firnat according to the media: press radio, television and the Internet.


Specifics:

1. Practise ora and written English taking the news as their material to be able to write for multimedia publication.

2. Carry out interviews and news in Engish taking into consideration the characteristics of the media (newspapers, radio, television and the Internet).


III. CONTENTS

1. Analyse the same news in newspapers of more countries.

2. Interpret nwes in English produced by non English speaking countries.

3. Kisten to and evaluate radio statio programmes of two or more countries on the same topic.

4. Listen to, undertand and comment television news programmes.

5. Report and elaborate: Chilean news for press,radio, television and the Internet in English.

6. Get to know the work of a muiltimedia correspondent.


IV. METHODOLOGY

- All the students have to give an oral report a previously specified topic every session.
- News search on the Internet.
- Individual reading practice to develop overal understanding of the language.
- Analysis of television and radio news programmes.
- Role-play activities and debates on current affairs.
- Workshops where each student will have access to a search texts, talk abourt a subject and edit news.
- Srt out background informatio of the main story to he able to write a more complete report.


V. EVALUATION

- Written assiggnments.
- Recording of interviews.
- Power poin presentations.
- Debates.
